Challenge

A successful mid-size manufacturing company was losing employees across the organization, even though team members reported being very happy working for the company.


Solution

AGC conducted an assessment to identify the root cause of employee departures. Through this process, it was discovered that key staff members were being lost because they did not see a career path for themselves within the company. While numerous career growth options were available across all areas of the organization, they were not well documented or communicated.  


To address transparency concerns and improve retention, AGC created a Career Pathway Program that accomplished the following goals:


  • Establish a structured process for career development and advancement.

  • Provide transparency into possible career pathways to enable employees to explore their career options.

  • Empower employees to determine their level of participation in this optional program.

  • Provide a communication tool for employees to present their interests and managers to provide feedback.


Results

Company leaders reported high levels of employee engagement in reaction to the Career Pathway Program. Employees reported feeling that they were listened to and felt valued by the organization as a result. Transparency into future roles improved trust across the organization and engendered a greater sense of loyalty among employees.
